Silver rupees associated with the Pindaris are part of a fascinating and complex period in Indian history. The Pindaris were irregular military groups in the 17th to early 19th centuries who initially served Mughal and later Maratha armies. They were known for their plundering activities, often receiving compensation in the form of plundered goods, including coins.
Pindaris issued their own coinage, such as a silver rupee from the Sironj mint, during a period of anarchy (1800-1815 AD / 1215-1230 AH). This coinage might have been used to pay their factions. These coins had relatively crude inscriptions compared to Mughal, Maratha or Indore issues.
