Vintage NEW YORK LIFE INSURANCE CO. (NYLIC) double sided hand painted wood sign. The company was founded in New York City in 1845 and even insured the lives of slaves for their owners at that time. They also later sold policies to soldiers during the Civil War, and was the first to offer life insurance to women at the same cost as men. Social reformer Susan B. Anthony was one of their first female policyholders!!! Estimate this sign dates to about 1940s or earlier. Features advertising for Special Agent Morton G. Stoudt. Not sure which branch office this was at. Sign is in very good condition with some wear to the original paint from age and use. Beautiful aged patina with one side a bit more worn that the other. Wood is solid throughout and has beveled edges both sides. Two steel rods run top to bottom through the interior of the wood to prevent warping and allow for secure hanging with top edge eye bolts. Measures 21 7/8” x 22 7/8” and 1 1/8” thick. Weighs over 10 pounds. See pics.
